A 68-year-old Dallas man was found guilty for failing to appear and for bail jumping, a first degree felony, in an Upshur County court on Monday.

Jud Waymond Smith was sentenced to 75 years in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Corrections during the sentencing phase of his trial on Thursday.

Smith was out of jail on bond for a charge of retaliating against a DPS trooper when he failed to appear in court for the charge, according to a press release from Upshur county.

Smith's legal history dates back to the 1980s and includes seven prior felony convictions.
