Tyler was recognized with the 2017 Texas Outstanding Arbor Day Celebration Award at the City Council meeting on Wednesday.
The Texas Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture gives the award to individuals, organizations or municipalities that have promoted Arbor Day through special projects, ceremonies, news articles or observations with an Arbor Day theme.
This year was Tyler’s largest Arbor Day celebration. It included three events with over 2,000 attendees.
Tyler’s Arbor Day event was celebrated on Jan. 21. It brought more than 450 volunteers to Lindsey Park to plant more than 90 trees. It also included the annual seedling giveaway (2,300 trees) and Tyler Junior College tree planting (50 trees).
“It’s an honor to receive this award,” City Arborist Cody Goldman said. “The city of Tyler collaborated with many organizations to make this past Arbor Day a huge success and it paid off.”
